Floor Coatings
Before a concrete floor can be polished or coated with either an epoxy or poly-based system, it has to be properly prepped. A large degree of floor preparation comes down to the removal of a previous flooring or coating that is on the existing concrete, whether it be epoxy, paint, tile or carpet. Any existing flooring must be removed prior to the polishing or coating process in order to ensure that the concrete will bond properly to anything being applied. This means that any residue, dust, glue or coatings will have to be cleared before the application or polishing process can begin.

In most cases a diamond grinder is capable of removing surface coatings such as paint, epoxy, or other adhesives like glue. Our diamond grinders are equipped with a variety of diamond tooling, whether these be varied grits of hard and soft bond tooling, or PCD tooling that are made with the express purpose of removing coatings such as epoxy. Underneath most coatings is concrete, which will then be ground and repaired as usual once the coating or flooring is removed. This can be said of most tile flooring as well, which usually removes quite easily with a scraper or heat application, exposing the adhesive and concrete underneath which can then be ground normally.
In the event that a concrete grinder is unable to properly grind and remove any existing flooring, coating, or residue, there is the option to shot blast the flooring as well. Shot blasting uses high-velocity pellets or beads – made of steel, copper, aluminum or another substance – as its abrasive material. Shot blasting machines concentrate these beads in one area at extremely high speeds to clear materials such as rust, paints, or other coatings. Once the materials have been cleared by the shot blaster to create an effective concrete profile, the remainder of the grinding can be accomplished with a diamond grinder prior to the application of coatings.
