Concrete Polishing

Concrete polishing is one of the most cost-effective and environmentally conscious methods of flooring in the industry. Unlike epoxy or polyaspartic coating systems that employ the use of a chemical bonding process, concrete polishing makes the most use of your existing concrete floor. If your business has a concrete floor, then it can be polished – whether it is hard or soft concrete, new or old, clean or dirty. Polished concrete gives a clean, shiny, and refined look to any given work space, ensuring that your business has the proper polish to it from top to bottom.

Why Concrete Polishing

Concrete polishing is one of the most cost-effective and environmentally conscious methods of flooring in the industry. Unlike epoxy or polyaspartic coating systems that employ the use of a chemical bonding process, concrete polishing makes the most use of your existing concrete floor. If your business has a concrete floor, then it can be polished – whether it is hard or soft concrete, new or old, clean or dirty. Polished concrete gives a clean, shiny, and refined look to any given work space, ensuring that your business has the proper polish to it from top to bottom. The finished product will accentuate the natural look of the concrete by exposing the stones underneath, while also dust-proofing your floor and ensuring that it is durable enough for the day-to-day of business life.

What is Involved in the Process?

The process of concrete polishing includes grinding the concrete surface at various grits to achieve a clean and reflective look. The initial stages of grinding will begin at lower grits, followed by higher grits, whether this to be to a 400 grit level, or something significantly more polished such as 1500 or 3000 grit. The degree to which a concrete floor is polished will determine how reflective it is, and will impact the strength and durability of the finished product as well.

Polished Concrete vs. Floor Coatings

Unlike epoxy or polyaspartic flooring, one of the great benefits of polished concrete is that there are no chemicals or coatings involved in polishing concrete. In some instances, however, it is beneficial to add a final protective sealer for longevity, especially in settings that will experience substantial traffic and use. Though in many cases a sealer is not required. The absence of products ensures that there is minimal downtime during the polishing process, allowing production to go on as soon as possible! However, a factor that must be considered is that this process is time-consuming given the concrete must be polished to varying levels of grit. Additionally, over time the polished concrete will begin to dull and fade slightly, and further buffing or polishing may be required.
